Soccer VS Futsal

Soccer and futsal place specific demands on the ball, resulting in variations in size, weight, bounce, and materials to ensure an experience adapted to their environment and style of play.

The Playing Grounds

The choice of ball depends primarily on where the sport is played.

Futsal, played indoors or on a hard surface, requires a ball that reacts well to this type of terrain. Soccer, played on natural or synthetic grass, needs a ball designed for outdoor conditions.

Size & Weight

A soccer ball is larger, while a futsal ball is more compact to promote close ball control in tight spaces.

Bounce

Bounce is also a key factor in the design of a futsal ball.

Unlike a soccer ball—whose higher bounce matches the speed of play and the characteristics of outdoor fields—a futsal ball is engineered to bounce much less. Used indoors on hard surfaces, it provides more controlled behavior, helping players maintain easier control of the ball.

Materials

A futsal ball is made with denser and more rigid materials than a soccer ball. Its thick polyurethane outer layer and high density foam underlayers help reduce bounce on hard gymnasium floors. Inside, its butyl bladder is reinforced with textile layers to limit expansion and maintain controlled bounce.

Conversely, a soccer ball uses softer and more elastic materials, such as lighter PU or PVC and internal foams that encourage a natural bounce. Its latex or butyl bladder is less reinforced, resulting in a livelier ball that suits outdoor play.
